Title: Syntactic Aspects of Ga/No Conversion

Date: Friday, January 26, 2007, 14:00--18:00
Place: Konan University Room 1015, first floor of Bldg 10

I am concerned with the temporal interpretation of English gerunds and its implication to their syntactic structure. It is generally said that gerunds in English do not bear the ¡Èirealis¡É interpretation as opposed to infinitives. I specifically argue that this non-irrealis nature of English gerunds has something to do with the fact that the perfective gerund having is often optional depending on the semantic nature of the higher verb.
