I will begin with a 22-minute documentary film I directed, called ``Within an Eye and an Ear Towards Zazaki" (an Indo-Iranian language), which gives background on the language and the context in which the research was conducted.

I proceed to describing the interpretations of indexical pronouns in embedded speech reports, demonstrating that they can shift their referent to the context-of-utterance (so that the 1st person pronoun in ``Ali said that I am rich" can be bound by ``Ali").

Importantly, there are clausemate restrictions on shifting that obey locality and demand a treatment in terms of an operator that shifts the parameters of evaluation. Comparisons with Amharic, and the theoretical machinery of Schlenker (2003) and von Stechow (2002) will be proposed.
