Title:
Korean Free Choice items and some implications for the
theory of Free Choice
Date : January 18, 2002, 16:00--18:30
Place :
Kobe Shoin Women's University, Room 1421, second floor of Bldg 14
In this talk I consider certain Korean Free-Choice items both from an
interpretive and a morphological point of view. For items that seem
ambiguous we try to establish the exact ambiguity and tease apart the
contextual properties that condition the various readings. We pay
particular attention to the "distinction" between universality and free
choice and consider its implications for the theory of free choice and
especially recent proposals such as Giannakidou (2001), Horn (2001) which
attempt to divorce universal quantification from free choice completely.
